Dear Church Family,
               Remembering is a crucial aspect of what it is to be human.  “People need to be reminded, to remember,  more than they need to be instructed,“ declared the English sage Samuel Johnson.  We just celebrated Memorial Day and in what is always a moving ceremony remembered the  names of those locally who died in the nation’s wars. Remembering keeps alive family traditions and the special qualities of deceased family members.  The cover story of the current issue of the Smithsonian magazine is called “The Art of Memory.” One of the hardest things about Alzheimer’s is the disappearance of memory in those afflicted.                 One of the special traditions of Falls Village Congregational Church is Remembrance Sunday, scheduled this year for June 18, Father’s Day.  It serves a dual purpose, to lift up the names of special people in our lives with the ringing of the church bell and to raise money for a special project.  This year’s project is the repair of our parsonage porch. 
               Naming forms were distributed last Sunday, and are also attached to this Good Word.  It is helpful if you could return the form to Susan Kelsey  in person or at the church’s mailbox, PO Box 72, Falls Village, CT. 06031.  It would be a big help in compiling the names if you could return it to her by June 11. 
               Communion will be celebrated this Sunday, which is Trinity Sunday.  The scriptural focus is Matthew 28:16-20—the Great Commission, which are Jesus’ final words.  The Old Testament reading is Genesis 1:1-13, 26-28. The sermon is “Mission Possible.”
