Dear Friends, The church is on the move this Sunday! In order to make the parking lot available for the car show, we’ll be meeting at 10 a.m. at the South Canaan Congregational Church (now home to the Historical Society), Rte 63 and Barnes Road, Falls Village. Built in 1804, it is a wonderful example of Federal style church architecture which is on the National Register of historic places. For the next several months the lectionary takes us through the story of the patriarchs and matriarchs in Genesis. The Bible gives us an engaging, even gripping, narrative of a family, often rather dysfunctional, through whom God worked to create the people of Israel. The stories are also remarkably contemporary in their description of family life. For the next several month’s I’ll be focusing on these Old Testament stories in a series of sermons on “Family Matters.” You may want to read Genesis 25-50 in preparation to get the whole sweep. The New Testament lectionary readings are largely from Matthew. We’ll begin with Jacob and Esau this week. The sermon is “If Jesus Lived in My House” and the texts are Genesis 25:19-34 and Matthew 11:25-30. Don’t forget the bake sale on Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m. See you Sunday at S. Canaan. Peace and Joy, Rich
